Hello Darlings,
Today is my Dad's birthday. He's been gone over a dozen years and I really miss our discussions. My Dad worked from the time he was six years old delivering flowers and candy. He built houses and put himself through law school. He had a fun sense of humor and was deeply proud of being a "girl dad." Though he has been gone a long time, he's the one I think about mostly when it comes to who I wish I could discuss this business with and goto sports games with- he would have been so excited about The Knicks being in the playoffs for the first time in 27 years.
Last week I went back to my college campus for reunion events for the first time since I graduated. A flood of memories of my parents coming by campus came rushing back. What a gift to have that foundation. My Dad could have easily said no to the $75 eye therapy sessions twice weekly for 2 years I attended to fix a vision issue, but he didn't and that allowed me to move forward with a college education at Barnard that I appreciate now more than ever. I wish I could describe to him all the details and colors I'm seeing in one eye after surgery ten days ago, the second one tomorrow over a game of catch. He had the best laugh and the bluest eyes, a quick wit and a big heart.
For everyone who has who feels triggered seeing ads and collections centered around celebrating people who had such roles in molding your life, if you are feeling anger or triggered, you're not alone, and this space is for you too.
I'm grateful there are scents that bring back those core memories with my Dad. I think his favorite scent of mine would be No. 72 Wasted Inheritance and he would get a laugh out the title. And in this Pride Month, hope your life is full of love in whatever form that takes.
Wax, wicks and always good smells,
